How to 'happily' do house chores...

As told by a 'friend'... needs a lot of imagination..

  1. Imagine that your current other half is just a friend and not really your partner.. Try to see him or her from that perspective.. Remember how that feels like..
  2. Imagine that you are a single parent (if you have kids lah).. and that that spouse of yours is still just a friend.. Look at him and imagine that.. Keep that feeling..
  3. Now, while you're doing the things that kinda pisses you off like e.g. cleaning the bedroom right after you got back from work just because.. or picking up dirty cloths from the floor, under the table, chair or ON the chair... you know, things like that.. think on item number 1 and 2 above again and remember the feelings that come with it..

Simply put, let's imagine this scenario:

You just got back from work. The house's a mess and your kids are messing the house more because they're excited to come back home from nursery or school. Then your other half comes back from work too. Now YOU'RE excited (wishful thinking) because you thought he'll help you with the mess or maybe watch the kids while you're cleaning up. But then, he just sits on the sofa and said,"I'm so tired, a cup of coffee would be great" and starts reading the paper.

So you make the coffee and hand it to him, thinking ,"Maybe after he gets some rest, he'll help me". So you start to clean up the living room first. Then you noticed the coffee's finished but he's still reading the paper, now with feet proped up on the coffee table. "Maybe after reading the paper," soothing yourself with that.

Now, you've finished the living room, downstairs toilet, kitchen and the kids' rooms. You opened your bedroom door and see cloths on the floor, under and on the chair, wet towel lumped on the bed and a pool of kain sarong just beside the laundry basket. Not IN it but just BESIDE it. You go downstairs to get some drinks first. You see that he's now watching the TV. With eyes on the tellie, he asks,"What's for dinner?".

So THIS is THE moment for you to look at him and do steps 1 to 2... The logic is, if he's just a friend, who happens to be in your home right now, you will never think of asking him to help out, right? Especially if he's just a friend that you happen to REALLY LIKE or something like that *wink wink.. You'll start to do the house chores by keeping in mind that you want to impress this 'guy' and maybe you know, show off some 'stuff' that could rival the tellie..

Seriously, try it.. and improvise! and remember, if at first you don't succeed, TRY, TRY again... *wink wink.. ouch, eye hurts from too much winking..
